Located in Marlborough at the top of the South Island, New Zealand, Green Ridge Estate® is owned and managed by Bill and Kay Chapman. Concerns for the environment and their desire to grow healthy chemical free produce led Bill and Kay to establish their biodynamic farm in the late 1980’s running sheep and cattle and growing lucerne. Planting of olive trees, on the same unique soils which produce the world acclaimed Marlborough wines, began in 1996. Israeli, Italian and Spanish varieties make up the intensively maintained groves. 500 olive trees have now been planted on two contrasting locations. Organic principles, under a biodynamic regime have been continued in the olive groves. Olives are harvested by hand and cold pressed on site within hours by the centrifugal method. The pure oil is low acidity and unfiltered retaining maximum flavours.
Our Olive Grove Culture
The central focus to the entire operation is a biodynamic regime which produces a natural environment in which our olive trees can flourish. This in turn with minimal intervention, the perfect climate (long hot summers and crisp clear winter days) for olive growing, produces fine fruit resulting in excellent olive oil |
